Fort Carson was created in 1942, following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. This post is recognized as one of the world’s premier location to lead, train, and maintain while preparing soldiers to win on the battlefield. The city of Colorado Springs, Colorado purchased land south of the city and donated it to the War Department.  Exercises and deployments continually polish the skills of Fort Carson Soldiers.

The Air Force Academy is among the most discerning colleges in the United States.  The USAFA is an accredited college for the undergraduate education of commissioned officers for the United States Air Force.  In addition to a rigorous military training regimen, cadets also take a broad academic course load with an extensive core curriculum in engineering, humanities, social sciences, basic sciences, military studies and physical education.

Peterson AFB is the domicile to the United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), AFSPC's 21st Space Wing , Army Space Command, and the Air Force Reserve Command's 302d Airlift Wing.  The 21 SW serves as host unit for Peterson AFB.

Schriever Air Force Base plays a major role in the aerospace defense of the United States. Navigational, communications and warning satellites are controlled from this location. The base is named in honor of General Bernard Adolph Schriever, who pioneered the development of the nation's ballistic missile programs.

NORAD’S joint operations are with the Canadian Forces Air Command and United States Air Force.  This installation was put in place to provide aerospace warning, air sovereignty, and defense for the two countries.
